The MET Costume Institute Gala

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's most envied annual red carpet event in New York, celebrating the new exhibit "The Model as Muse," kicked off monday night with a blinding turnout of celebrities, models, and designers. Marc Jacobs, who co-chaired the event with Vogue's Anna Wintour, immortal model Kate Moss who looked perfectly great and Gatsby in gold lame, and Justin Timberlake (explain that one to me please), encouraged as many attendees to wear short hems for a younger and fresher atmosphere. It was lovely to see past blasts such as Shalom, Eva, Cindy, and Nadja. Stella McCartney was flanked by her three celebrity muses, Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, and Kate Bosworth, all wearing Stella's designs, while Madonna, wearing an appropriately short Louis Vuitton, looked like mutton dressed as lamb in her garish boots and 80's inspired headpiece.

Mary-Kate Olsen wore someone's platinum vintage lace curtains, while model Sasha Pivovarova almost scared me to death in her peacock duster. Gossip Girl Leighton Meester looked, well I have no words really for her get up, Claudia Schiffer looked divine, Lou Doillon looked flirty in red, and Rihanna looked Sacha Fierce in her tailored tux. But dear Renee Zellweger, I love you and Carolina Herrera, but why must you wear so drab a color and skip out on some much needed lipstick and blush? At least she didn't look contorted on the red carpet like flashbulb-addicted Victoria Beckham did when she posed in her Marc Jacobs mini and tacky platforms. And at least she didn't look like Pirates of the Caribbean extra David Lauren in his frilly blouse and too tight leather pants.....
